Museum Assignment Arriving down town to the museum of modern art, my mind was open to the experience of visiting the museum for the first time. As I walked along with the many visitors of this grand structure it felt as if I was visiting old friends. There are many works of art which catch your attention the instant you arrive for example Les Demoiselles d’Avignon which is an amazing oil base painting painted by the famous artist Pablo Picasso, but the one that caught my eyes the most was Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. Starry night is one of Vincent Van Gogh most famous painting.
So as I walked around soaking in the beauty of the colors and the degree of skill and passion that emanated from the art. I caught sight of the painting I was instantly drawn to it like a moth to a camp flame. The painting from a far looked solid and smooth making the background look like it was snowing. The sky looked like massive waves and balls of glowing lights. The mystery of the castle like structure with sharp edges that lack meaning in the painting keep you wondering why is it there? But the closer you get to it the more you discover the beauty of the mystery which is what makes this painting my favorite.
The closer you get to the painting the more you start to notice the small brush strokes that Van Gough uses in his art work gives different color giving the painting more details, you can think of it like pixels on a television but the closer you keep getting to the painting the more you start to notice that the background once seen as snow/wave now looks like a swirling clouds or like my professor said “the milky way”, and the ball of light now looking like a stars ablaze with their own luminescence, and a bright crescent moon.
Starry night was ominous yet so comfortable and put me at ease plus the sky kept my eyes moving about the painting, he changed the perspective of many artists with his unorthodox paintings following the curves and creating a visual dot to dot with the stars. This movement kept me involved in the painting and the big castle now being a massive black pillar of flames (how I viewed it). As for the pillar of black flames gave depth to the painting, it being so big yet can sometime go un notice as in giving the other details in the painting more meaning, this part of the painting personally I favored because everybody can relate to the notion of being the DUFF (designated ugly fat friend) making others shine in your ugliness or poor meaning.
It make me wonder how Van Gogh felt when he was painting this amazing peace of work from what I know he was in a asylum at Saint-Remy in 1889 when he painted starry night but to know the whole story one would need to start from the beginning to when Van Gogh was in his youth.
Van Gogh was raised in a middle class family, spent his early adulthood working for a firm of art dealers was went on to become a pastor to paint minor in Belgium where he began to sketch people from the local community in his stay he painted the The Potato Eaters which is a well-recognized work of art. Later went on to develop
