Jesus and Muhammad
All over the World people know Jesus as the son of God a very important figure in Christianity and Muslims know the Prophet Muhammad as receiving a Revelation from the Holy Qur’an. The lives of these two men have influenced many lives in previous years and years to come. The religions that Jesus and Muhammad are still being practice today, and even though they lived two totally different lives they both had an impact on history and humanity.
The birth of Jesus was a miracle in itself. Mary, who was Jesus mother, was a virgin and her husband Joseph was a carpenter. The Holy Spirit gave this gift of child to a virgin woman, something we all know cannot be done, but God allowed. When it and was time for Jesus to be born he was born amongst animals in a stable. He was given the name Jesus Christ: Jesus means “God saves” and Christ means “anointed one”. Jesus childhood is not documented in any text except for one account.
It is believed that Jesus childhood did not need to be documented because he was working under his father as a carpenter, but it wasn’t until he went to the river where John the Baptist was baptizing people. Baptizing is when someone repents their sins and by submersion of water is spiritually purified. John the Baptist felt that he did not need to baptize Jesus because Jesus was looked at to be sinless by the people. Jesus insisted that he be submersed in water. When he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit descending upon him like a dove; and a voice came from the heaven. “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am pleased” (Fisher, 2005). Even though Jesus did not need to be baptized he wanted to show all everyone that it was important to be baptized and purify your soul. It took Jesus well beyond his teen years to be baptized and maybe why his ministry did not begin until his thirties. God maybe wanted his son’s soul to be pure before he started his ministry for his father.
Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them” (Fisher, 2005). Jesus taught his followers to believe in spiritual treasures of heaven and not to concentrate on money, big houses and lots of land because God can give you all of things your heart desires as long as it is through God. While Jesus was in his ministry he recorded miracles included turning water to wine, walking on water, cursing a fig tree, healing the sick, multiplying a small meal to feed a crowd, casting out demons, and even raising a man from the dead.
The death of Jesus was an important part of Christian history. Judas, one of Jesus disciples led Roman soldiers to Jesus. Jesus was brought before the Jewish chief priests for trial. When questioned, he said very little but affirmed he was the Messiah. He was then judged worthy of death for blasphemy and handed over for punishment.
Jesus was brutally beaten, clothed in a mock-royal purple robe and crown of thorns, then executed by crucifixion. Jesus suffered on the cross for many hours before finally crying out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" and breathing his last breath. It is not until later that women go into the tomb and realize that Jesus was not there because he had rose from the dead. It was 30 to 40 years until the miracles and teachings of Jesus was documented as the New Testament in the Holy Bible.
Jesus resurrection has lead to many Christian believers. Jesus taught unconditional love, forgiveness, and acceptance. Jesus taught us that he died on the cross for our sins and if we embrace him we will be saved. People still today pray, have communion every first Sunday of the month and get baptized.
