The area of human services that I would like to work with is with The Planned Parenthood. I’ve chosen that service because in today’s world there are a lot of confused teenagers that’s out here pregnant with no perspective of what they plan on doing. What goes on in other people's bedrooms has been an issue that divides people in the United States. What may bother many people about Planned Parenthood is that it operates on the assumption that sex will happen. Teenagers will have sex. Married people will have sex. Young singles will have sex with people they just met, and people will have sex with their long-term lovers, who may even be of the same gender. Some will be forced into a sexual encounter against their will if they are raped. Either way it deals with sexual encounters whether for the good or the bad.
If 100 years ago, you told a woman that one day women would be able to swallow a tiny pill to avoid getting pregnant she wouldn't have believed you. In early 1900’s condoms had already been in existence for hundreds of years but depending on where you lived, they weren't always legal. Planned Parenthood upholds and supports a woman's legal right to choose an abortion by providing the operation, which has been a major issue for many, many years until now. It also works to ensure that a person's reproductive organs are kept safe from disease and cancer with good testing services. Everyone have they different views on this particular service because they are provided with enough information that is needed in the future, and even though it is important not everyone share those same feelings. My niece was a patient of Planned Parenthood and understanding that some things are confidential my sister still felt betrayed by the program because she was underage and was pregnant. I had to assure her that it is a part of their work and if the patient doesn’t want that then there is nothing that can be done.
While some people find Planned Parenthood distasteful, there are millions worldwide who rely on Planned Parenthood as a means for getting birth control and preventing unintended births. So in the end everything worked out for the best because she was recommended to a counselor that made it easy for her to talk to instead of being afraid, and she was able to get the help she needed and gained a mentor out of that whole process.
Ive done some research and as more women accepted the idea that they had the right to choose when to become pregnant via the use of birth control, more people started to believe that true reproductive choice also included the ability to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. Planned Parenthood
