Review on Jason and the Argonauts
The myth of Jason's quest to find a magical golden fleece comes vividly to life in this 1963 classic. Although plodding at times and bereft of humour, the movie will enchant grade-school children with its Greek gods and stop-motion creatures. This movie I believe can deliver unique concepts which can be an advantage as well as a disadvantage towards the movie. It is in my personal opinion that this movie was one of the best Greek mythology based films that I watched. It is a good family friendly movie which is great to watch and to also escape reality.
Jason was the son of the lawful King Iolcus, but his uncle Pelias had taken reign over the throne. Pelias had kept Jason’s father a prisoner and would certainly have murdered Jason at birth. But Jason’s mother deceived Pelias by mourning as if Jason had died. As the child gradually grew; when the age had come, he had set out like a proper hero to claim his rightful throne.
This top hit movie has had a lot of hard work put into action. This movie has influenced many movie directors with the correct use of stop motion scenes. Some of these movie directors who have been influenced are Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, George Lucas and many others. To a certain extent this movies’ meaning can be incorporated in our daily lives. This movies’ meaning that was delivered through appropriate cinematography is courage and truthfulness. These idealistic concepts are essential to be depicted in today’s society. Truthfulness is played in the scene where Jason was forwarding his issues to the wife of the Almighty God Zeus, Hera. Jason trusted the Goddess with all his heart. Being truthful to others can bring great happiness in the end. Many other advantages occur whilst being truthful such as building a strong relationship.
Courage is portrayed in this movie as a strive for justice. Jason has a momentous amount of courage to retrieve the Golden Fleece and rescue Thessaly from being ruled by King Pelias. Courage is a sensational principal which should be gained in possession to succeed in life. Jason had courage when he was battling the 7 headed Hydra. Creating the 7 headed Hydra was one of Ray Harryhausen’s (special effects pioneer) top stop motion techniques. Whilst battling the 7 headed Hydra Jason wouldn’t give up; he was trying the best of his ability to make a change. ‘Not giving up,’ I believe is one of the most imperative motive’s that should be incorporated in humanity’s daily lives. Courage is a key figure which helps a person to get along whilst battling difficult hardships.
The ways the characters in this movie are portrayed are very unique. For example, Hercules is not depicted as a young ripped body builder, but as one would expect a middle aged strong man to be. Argos, the ship builder, is tanned and overweight; these types of features are as one would expect the veteran of many sea voyages to be. Hera the Goddess is normally portrayed as a relentless and implacable woman. In this film she is presented as a beautiful and helpful goddess.
At the beginning of this film it is a bit slow. But once the story line is
