Dance Apocalyptic
This song, which was written by Janelle Monae, is a song that effectively conveys how this current generation is slowly losing its personality and uniqueness. The “apocalypse” is an extended metaphor for how the creativity of our generation is slowly dying because of technology. Instead of going out and socializing with people and seeing the world around us we’re hunched over, looking at our phones, not even paying attention. I think what Monae is trying to say is that because of this soon there will be no interaction whatsoever and eventually we will be living a life that wouldn’t even be worth being called a life. Her music video has a lot of references to the apocalypse that is mentioned in the bible. This is the main way of her preaching her idea of how life as we used to know it is coming to an end. One of which is a short pause in her music video to show a weather woman making a report about how there is a swarm of locusts and extreme weather all over the globe. These are both signs of the apocalypse in its early stages.
