In the movie It’s a Beautiful Mind, directed by Ron Howard, the main character John Nash played by Russell Crowe has schizophrenia. The signs that pointed out that John Nash had schizophrenia included these symptoms; delusions, hallucinations, he heard voices that other people could not hear, he thought people were plotting to harm him and his career, in the movie he withdrew from social things because he was so involved on his job so he had a lack of desire to form social relationships. There is one symptom for schizophrenia that did not fit him in the movie it was a lack of desire or motivation to complete goals in the movie he wanted to complete his goals. In 1947, when It’s a Beautiful Mind was taken place it was believed that shock therapy worked because people with epileptic seizures did not have any other mental disorders, such as schizophrenia. People were given insulin and shock therapy to help prevent the signs and symptoms of schizophrenia. When John Nash was admitted into a psychiatric facility and he was given a course with insulin shock therapy these were typical procedures to try to cure schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a serious brain disorder that distorts the way a person thinks, acts, expresses emotions, perceives reality, and relates to others. People with schizophrenia often have problems functioning in society, at work, school, and in relationships. Schizophrenia can leave its sufferer frightened and withdrawn. It is a life-long disease that cannot be cured
