Israel-Palestine Conflict Israel, declaring its independence on 14 May 1948, is a parliamentary democracy in the Middle East. It is located east of the Mediterranean Sea, north of Lebanon, west of Jordan, northeast of Egypt, and north of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea, it also contains geographical boundaries within the country, those boundaries are todays Palestine. Palestine living in the major territories occupied by Israel since 1967: East Jerusalem, the West Bank of the Jordan River, and the Gaza Strip along the Mediterranean coast south of Israel("Israeli-Palestinian Conflict").
For about a century Zionist Jews and Palestinian Muslims have been fighting over the land of Israel/Palestine. After the holocaust Zionist Jews want to have a homeland for the Jews. [Because Palestine is] the site of an intermittent ancient Jewish kingdom until the extension of the Roman Empire to that area in 63 BCE ("Israeli-Palestinian Conflict"). 1920 to 1948 the United Kingdom ruled a large part of the Middle East which included Palestine called the British Mandate. In the Palestine area Britain were up against a guerrilla war conducted by the Zionist independent combatants. In 1947 the United Kingdom withdrew the mandate, after the mandate the UN wanted to separate the Muslim from the Jewish state. The Zionist agreed while the Muslims did not, in reaction the Palestinians succeeded to a civil war. Over the fighting, Israel out of the ashes of the Holocaust ("Writing a People's History of Israel/Palestine") declared its independence on May 14, 1948. After fighting in 1948 with the surrounding Arab nations and conflict also in 1967, Israel had West Bank, Gaza, and Jerusalem under rule.
While the Jews were migrating to this Land they did not know that Palestine considered themselves as an actual “independence”. In 1969 Golda Meir (1898–1978), the prime minister of Israel from 1969 to 1974, stated that “there were no such thing [sic] as Palestinians” at the time of Israel's founding (London Sunday Times, 15 June 1969) ("Israeli-Palestinian Conflict").
