Iran and its nuclear program
The steady rise of nuclear weapons in the global community is a concern to all the worlds’ people. Iran has been in pursuit of nuclear energy sustainability for years, and with this an opportunity to produce a nuclear warhead. The theory that allowing Iran to hold nuclear weapon will create a peace in the region is absurd, considering the both Iran and Israel will never bomb each other. Iran’s history with other global powers will help disclose the future and why they would pursuit nuclear technology. This thesis looks at how a nuclear program is viable for the state of Iran, and how the United States governments over site will prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons.
Research
The research for this paper both quantitative and qualitative is used to address the complex issues of the Iranian government and holding a nuclear program. These steps include history of Iranian conflicts and how it leads rise of the current government and transitioning to the US ultimate involvement to prevent nuclear war while allowing a viable energy source. Also the history between Iran and Israel conflict from verbal to the plausible recent covert attacks against each other, and taking a look at the point of time when Israel was allies with Iran. Included in the research are the steps the United States took in the past with Iran, from treaties to sanctions and their previous relationship prior the 1979 Iranian revolution. A lot of the information comes from stories and opinion related articles when it gets close towards modern Iran and their nuclear ambitions.
The qualitative research consists of the why and how these issues come to the conclusion of why the United States should take control of their nuclear facilities. Israel has expressed concern, most recently in front of the United States congress, on why nuclear talks with Iran are a threat.
Literature Review
This literature review will address the following (1) the political history of Iran leading in to the revolution, and after the revolution (2) the meaning of nuclear proliferation and the international atomic agency and how Iran is in probable violation of thus treaties (3) then the democratic peace theory and the theory of offensive realism, (4) Israel and Iranian history and violence (5) Iran obtaining weapons and building nuclear facilities (6) also the involvement of the United States with Iran.
Peace, Realism, NPT, IAEA
The democratic peace theory entails if a state is a democratic then they do not attack each other. There reason is because they share the same goals and trade; this in return would cripple both economies due to the lack of resources received. Free trade is a main concept; well this cannot be done in Iran, as western countries have sanctions placed on the state. So when it comes to Iran taking control of their future aspects they are realist focused on what is best for them. Offensive realism plays off of the fear of the state and its ambitions. When Iran started to pursue nuclear technology without the help or permission of the United Nation, questions and thought of fear arose. At the time Iran claimed that their nuclear facilities were for energy recourses, but there were evidence that they might have been for defensive reasons. This theory explains a lot of why Iran is proceeding with this technology with addition why Israel is against a nuclear Iran.
Nuclear weapon non-proliferation is the preventive of distributing nuclear weapons and technology and promotes safe nuclear development. Safe nuclear goes under the notion of only for civilian uses, and not for efforts of mass destruction. There are countries involved in the treaty that have nuclear weapons and abide by the treaty guidelines. Since Iran is developing without the helpful of the International Atomic Energy Association, which is promotes uses not for war but for peace, they are on a thin line since they claim it’s for peace without civilian facilities.
