1.0 Introduction

Superannuation is the Australian system that helps people to arrange their funds and presented for them in retirement time. Superannuation is well supported and encouraged by government in Australia. Moreover, for the year commencing 1 July 2013, the minimum superannuation guarantee (SG) contributions required to be made for an employee will be 9.25%. (Williams, 2012) Furthermore, it is encourage investing extra funds into superannuation. There are plentiful of superannuation funds presently accessible in the market, all these funds involve with various types of investment and perform a different outcomes on investment returns. As the research officer, I was request to analyse the superannuation data. The objective of this research report is to analyse the superannuation data, in order to discover which types of the fund is suitable for various workers. The purpose of this report is to summarise, analyse and interpret the Superannuation funds data, in order to discover the distribution and the factors that influence the data. In the following report, the data of one year return and three year return will be analyse, in order to determine the distribution and the factors that influence the data. Furthermore, the both data will be compared in the following content as well. Superannuation funds are closely related to each of the worker, eventually this is one of the decision that majority of the workers will involve making. Therefore, this report will helps workers with making better decision on investing superannuation funds.

2.0 OUTLIERS

Superannuation data will be analysing since it’s an issue for majority of Australian, the data of one year return will be tested. Ahead of the data analysing, the outlier of the one year return data will be detected. “In statistics, an outlier is an observation that is numerically distant from the rest of the data.” (S.M.A.Khaleelur Rahman, M.Mohamed Sathik, K.Senthamarai Kannan, 2012) There are outliers discover in the one year return. In this set of data, if the Z score is three standard deviations above or below the mean is considered as outlier. According to Nordhausen in 2010, since the outliers are most extreme observations with maximum or minimum sample, therefore it will be take out before the data analysis, for the reason of better accuracy of the analysis and prevent it to be distorted. Generally 99.7% are within 3 standard deviations.
