The internet is made up of millions of computers all over the world that are digitally connected to each other by cable, fibre or wireless links.
•
For the internet to work some of the computers need to acts as servers so that other computers around the world can request data from them. There are different types of servers on the internet, these include web servers, email servers and application servers.
•
Any computer connected to the internet must have an IP address that is unique. Internet Protocol.
This is the way in which data is transferred between other computers through the internet, internet protocol sends “packets” from the host server to the destination computer.
Domain names. the domain name is part of the address which tells you which domain the website is on. Examples of this would be a website ending in .gov will be on the government domain, .edu will be on the educational institutes domain. Domains also are used for countries like .co.uk, .ca,
.com, .th and so on.
WWW. (WORLD WIDE WEB)
The world wide web is different from the actual internet. Whereas the internet is made up of computers and cables, the world wide web is made up with pages full of text, pictures/photos, music and other media files.
Of course the WWW needs the internet to work as it will need to use other computers( servers) to request the data to be able to transfer it and show it on the web browser that you're using.
