The Victorian Era: Industrial Revolution

During the 1800s, the Industrial Revolution spread throughout Britain.
It changed Britain from a land of small towns, villages and farms into a land of cities, large towns and factories.
The Industrial Revolution was a period of great change. New industries developed rapidly as a result of a number of new inventions and the way in which things were produced. The way in which people lived and worked changed quickly as well as a result of these developments.
One of the major improvements during the industrial revolution was the introduction of the steam engine. The Victorian Era was the Age of Steam. The engineers developed bigger, faster, and more powerful machines that could run a whole factory. With the power of the steam engine, the number of factories in textiles and mills increased in numbers greatly.
The Victorian Era was also the Age of Steel, and In 1856, a man named Henry Bessemer invented a method that quickly converted iron into steel. Bridges, ships, and buildings were built easier and more efficiently.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel was an English mechanical and civil engineer who built dockyards and the Great Western Railway. His most significant contribution during the Victorian Era was building a series of steamships including the first propeller-driven transatlantic steamship. He also built numerous important bridges and tunnels. His designs revolutionized public transport and modern engineering.
