INCENTIVES IN OUR WORLD TODAY

Starting today if you bring a non- perishable item to the concert you will get $ 2 off of admission. We all have seen or heard this at one time or another. You may be motived to bring an item to save money on your admission price, you maybe be motived to provide item to a less fortunate person. It is our human nature to ask ourselves: “what is in it for me?". In my case I ask myself when I donate at work, did I give just to get something in return or did I give because it was a good cause. No matter how you reason with yourself, in back of your mind you are maybe think what reward would I receive for do this action? This would be part of our human nature to ask such questions. In today world no matter what your occupation or title may be you, getting the mindset if there gesture I am doing to achieve a goal does not offer some type of incentive you are not going to your best or may not do it at all.

Organization have incentives in place to motive employees to increase production, produce quality products. Incentives can have a positive or negative effect. For example you could have employee A goes above and beyond to achieve not only his or her person goals but also the teams. This person also takes in account the goals the company are trying to achieve. The incentive negative would be employee B, this employee is doing just to enough to get by and has no concern with company or team goals. Also the employee believe as long as them meet the goal they will get an incentive. Is this type of mindset fair to their co-works or even to the company? I believe no. The reason I strongly disagree with this, is because incentives are put in to place to motivate individuals, not to cheat the system. Just in the chapter talk about the teachers cheating to help their students past a test. Were the teacher’s actions fair to the students? Me being a parent, I would be very upset. We can see all incentives are not good.Individual incentives can be part of a personal morals or personal passion for something. Previously I mention incentives I receive at work for donating, this could be my time or money.

For example the company I work for motivates its employees to donate to a non-profit organization by offering the incentive of wearing free jeans for one month. Morally I feel it is the right thing to do. I look at as if I was that person and I if I was in need for a service, would someone be so kind to the same for me. Personally yes I would enjoy wearing jeans for a month instead of dressing in business attire. This would be a form of non-cash incentive, which would save the company. The employee that donates does have sense of wellbeing because they were able to donate to a nonprofit organization that provides services and goods for people that are unable to afford them. The nonprofit has an incentive also, the receive gift from the employees who were motived to donate. Then the nonprofit passes its reward to those in need. This would be an incentive for those in need. The person in need were motivated to go to the nonprofit to sign up for services, which turn the incentive for that person is to receive whatever goods or services they requested.

Some think there is no incentive in volunteering, when in reality there actually is. Me personally I
