In “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” In “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”, the grandmother was always acting as a selfish, racist, manipulative, lier, and a self-centered person. She often perceived herself as a good woman and superior to others. In some aspect, her moral attitude kept her from being loved by her own grandchildren, which described how a terrible grandmother she really was around them.

For instance, she felt it was necessary for her as a responsibility to teach her grandchildren to be "more respectful of their native states and their parents and everything else "while she then refered upon a poor black child standing outside the door of a shack by calling him “a cute little pickaninny" (page 98, lines 22, 23). There, she demonstrated just a kind of racist behavior towards that child. In addition, the grandmother told the children a story of her past, in which she mentioned all the good things she would have done well if she ever got married to a very wealthy man of her life named Mr. Teagarden. The story began as the family was trying to plan a trip to go to Florida. It focused rapidly on the grandmother's character who seemed to refuse to come up with an agreement and be a part of the trip. She even mentioned that she would rather go to a place, somewhere in Tenesse than Florida, but the family did not pay attention to her. The grandmother was unsure about the trip, she tried her best knowledge to convince her son, Bailey not to go on the trip. However, she was left with no choice, but got herself much more into it and followed her son and family on the road trip which became very tragic after the car flipped over.

Some readers think in “A Good Man is Hard to Find” the grandmother was a genuinely changed person at the time of her death. For others, it is just different, and I agree on that. For example, I personally think that the grandmother's controlling nature had turned her into an odious and annoying woman, but not a criminal. To me, she was to much of a self-centered to be considered as a changed woman. She seemed having fun in doing thing that could be offensive to others. By reading “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” I understand that she simply begged the Misfit in order to spare her own life, not anything related to others; but at the same time, I do not have a feeling that she meant for any of the grandchildren, her son including his wife, and herself to lose their life the way they did.
