Immunization Registry for Children
There would be several benefits in developing an immunization registry database for children. For instance, some benefits for parents that may come about is that parents would be able to have access to all the immunizations for their child, they would be able to see if their child’s immunization is up to data, they may be able to see when their child is due for another vaccination, they may prevent duplicate vaccinations, and there would always be a copy of the child’s records on file for access at a later date for any purpose. (O’Carroll, 2003) Providers would also benefit from a database like this because it could serve to be a complete source of immunization history for a child whether it is a new or continuing patient and it would help to determine the immunization schedule. (O’Carroll, 2003) Additionally, it would help to identify when certain immunizations are overdue, allow the provider to give official records to parents, reduce patient paperwork, and manage inventories. (O’Carroll, 2003) Regarding public health, an immunization registry serves to help control vaccine preventable diseases, and provide information that would help to identify populations that may be getting the immunizations that they need. (O’Carroll, 2003) This would help to reduce the number of children who are not immunized, and allow public health officials to educate areas that seem to have low rates of immunizations and allow the ability to focus resources where they are needed the most.

Communication A communication plan will need to be in place with the school system as they would have records of students who attend school. There will also have to be communication with all outlets which provide vaccinations to children so that they comply with entering information about their vaccinations into the database. There will also have to be educational programs for parents who will need to know that these databases exist so that they can access their data through their provider. It would be necessary to have a lot of communication from providers and schools who would be providing data so that there is no repetition of data. Parents would also be vital in this stage to ensure that they provide accurate data to make sure that there are no duplicates in the system.
