Health Care Interview

Health care and health care management not only involves treating patients in a medical facility but it also involves treating patients in their home environment by helping them still regain optimal health to function within their limitations. Home health care is defined as the provision of nursing care to acute, chronically ill, and clients of all ages in their home while integrating principles of CHN, psychosocial, economic, cultural, personal health factors affecting health. It is characterized by a range of health issues and related services, which are delivered to person at home who are recovering from illness, are disabled, or chronically and terminally ill, and need various services to progress, maintain function or perform their activities of daily living (Montauk, 1988). Anna Adams works for Boss Home Health Care Company where she provides this in home health care assistance to her patients. Anna provides routine personal care such as bathing, dressing, grooming, to elderly, convalescent, children with mental illnesses or disable patients in their home or a residential care facility. In the facility and or the patient’s home daily tasks and her responsibilities include but are not limited to administering oral medication under written prescription of the physician, changing wound dressings, vital signs, maintaining records of patient care, condition, progress, and problems in order to report and discuss observations with a supervisor or case manager, Massage patients and apply preparations and treatments, such as liniment, alcohol rubs, and heat-lamp stimulation, Provide patients with help moving in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs or automobiles, and with dressing and grooming, Care for children who are disabled or who have sick or disabled parents, Change bed linens, wash and iron patients' laundry, and clean patients' quarters, Entertain, converse with, or read aloud to patients to keep them mentally healthy and alert, Perform a variety of duties as requested by client, such as obtaining household supplies and running errands. Plan, purchase, prepare, and serve meals to patients and other family members, according to prescribed diets, Provide patients and families with emotional support and instruction in areas such as infant care, preparing healthy meals, independent living, and adaptation to disability or illness. Along with her responsibilities and task she also has to have compassion and have sensitivity towards her patients and depending on their situation she has to have more or less, but regardless everyone deserves that compassion. All of her patients are treated and given the same amount of respect. She emphasized that to do her job patience, compassion and sensitivity are key to taking care of that patient and as the patient relationship is built. The patients rely on their care provider to help them with whatever they need help with even if it is as small as listening or making sure they get their medication on time. Anna stated, “ If anyone wants to become a home health care provider they need to place themselves in the shoes of the patient and realize what they may be going though and if you could handle it with your family member or yourself then you should be ok to do the job.” The important thing to remember is treat the patients as one would want their family member treated if they were disable, injured, sick, or whatever their disability may be. The families of the patients trust her to do her job and take care of their family when they cannot. It is not about the money she told me but the passion she has for caring.
Anna’s education requirement and personal requirements for her job included her high school diploma, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course, Basic Life Support/CPR certification, a background checks and several references followed up with an interview.
