Attendance policy:
Any student who misses a maximum limit of 3 classes will be strongly encouraged to withdraw from the course. Professional development requires students to be in attendance to receive the maximum benefit of the course. Special consideration will be taken for unavoidable circumstances and will be judged on a case-by-case student basis. It is the instructors/professors decision to accept or deny the student request for special consideration.
Grading Policy:
ALL ASSIGNMENTS ARE TO BE TYPED AND HANDED IN ON THE DUE DATES. LATE PAPERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
Prerequisites:
Completion of Industry Related hours (250)
Completion of THM 3195-Junior Fieldwork (180hrs.)

Purpose: The Purpose of this class is to expose senior level students to a model of organizational structure in the sport, recreation, tourism, hospitality, and leisure services profession through simulated experiences. The class is designed with a president, departments, and staff roles. These roles are designed to represent the interactions that take place with various constituencies needed to enhance sport, recreation, tourism, hospitality education and opportunities. This class will expose you to the pressure of business professional related activity, and the situational and random discussions of global issues related to our industry, and the process of being taken out of your comfort zone. Students will learn how to be comfortable with his/her strengths and or weaknesses and focus on managing growth potential. Social Intelligence, time management, and critical decision making are keys to success.
Course Objectives: 1. Students will understand the advanced requirements needed to apply for an internship position while gaining knowledge of professional issues and how they impact the delivery of leisure service. (8.07)
2. Students will understand the importance of professional development through classroom assignments and the utilization of department and university resources. (8.10)
3. Students will strengthen their current knowledge of the specific population/interest they will be working with. Examples…youth, professional sports, marketing/sales, non-profit, hotels, public service, technology, college athletics, tourism, recreation programming, special events, research, etc.
4. Students will understand the different responsibilities of the University, agency and student in the internship process.
5. Students will understand the critical importance of the credential and certification process.
