Chapter 32 Between 1900 and 1925, traditional norms were violated or abandoned in art, music, and literature. What factors might have brought about this situation? Offer specific examples to illustrate your general statements.

Pablo Picasso, who moved from place to place, was a huge example of why traditional norms were violated or abandoned. Picasso was one of the co-creators of Cubism which was the first style of abstract art which evolved at the early twentieth century. It was brought on by a response to the world that was changing at a great speed. His aim was to develop a new way for people to see things which reflected the new modern age. Picasso had several periods in which he provided different styles and forms of art. Blue period, rose period, break in cubism, classical period and surrealism were just a few of these periods which reflected his art.
At the turn of the 20th century, Picasso started his “Blue Period” in Paris, France due to the death of a friend. This color dominated almost all of his art pieces and signified isolation and anguish. By 1905, Picasso moved into his “Rose Period” brought on by a love of a model and the generous patronage of an art dealer. During this period he painted mostly beiges, pink’s and red’s that included a famous painting called “Two Nudes” in 1906. The Classical Period was during the start of World War I that brought him to be preoccupied with the depiction of reality. Most of his work was done by experimentation but during this time frame, he returned to his Realism.
Break in Cubism period for Picasso featured his art piece “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” that is considered the precursor and inspiration of Cubism. This piece of art is abstracted and distorted with sharp geometric features along with stark blotches of blue, greens and grays (Pablo Picasso). In Cubist paintings, objects were broken apart and then reassembled in abstract form which shocked, appalled yet fascinated the world to Cubism. Georges Braque, Picasso’s close friend referred to the painting as a revolutionary movement.

Animals have been dated back to the cave man drawings and are still drawn today by people. Most animals were hunted or symbolized in some way for strength and/or weakness. The Egyptians symbolized a cat as sacred, where as a snake can be symbolized as evil. A whale in the Vietnam coastal area is a sacred creature which brings luck and prosperity to fisherman. In all countries, animals have been symbolized both for the country and the individual.
Animals have symbolized countries for many years. The United States symbolizes the bold eagle because of its strength, long life, majestic looks and also because it was to be believed as to only exist on this continent. We also use animals as a symbol for sport teams as the Chicago Bears or St. Louis Cardinals. Schools even have mascots like the Metamora Redbirds or Dunlap Eagles. It may come to be a shocker but clothing brands such as Ducks Unlimited have their own symbol.
We as humans also use animals for our personal instinctual side. Each one of us can relate to an animal that resemble ourselves in some way. I do not believe that any animal someone chooses is neither good nor bad. One could choose a bear for being protective as one could choose a bunny for being sweet. Each animal someone chooses is for a reason which reflects them mentally. Jesus was also known as the Lamb of God and lion of Judea.
