Human Impact on Cycles
We, as humans, have an effect on everyone and everything around us including the four main cycles of the Earth; water cycle, nitrogen cycle, carbon cycle, and the phosphorus cycle. The water cycle is the circulation of the earth's water, in which water evaporates from the surface into the atmosphere, where it condenses and returns back to the Earth’s surface as rain or snow. Water is an essential necessity in every living, biotic thing. Humans have an impact of the water cycle is many different ways, some being beneficial and some being harmful to our environment. One beneficial way that humans impact the water cycle is the use of hydroelectric energy. Hydroelectric energy is the conversion of flowing water into energy.
This process helps with less pollution and it also always evaporation to be easily by gathering large bodies of water together. However a negative impact that humans may have on the water cycle is deforestation, the removal of trees, and it is impacting our water cycle because it’s causing major climate change resulting in less transpiration from the trees, which is an important part of our water cycle.
The nitrogen cycle is a series of processes by which nitrogen and its compounds are circulated within the environment and within living organisms, including nitrogen fixation and decomposition. Nitrogen is one of the primary nutrients critical for the survival of all living organisms. Although nitrogen is abundant in the atmosphere, it can’t be accessible through specific forms to specific organisms. Many human activities have a significant impact on the nitrogen cycle, burning fossil fuels, application of nitrogenbased fertilizers, and other activities can dramatically increase the amount of nitrogen in an ecosystem, large changes in the availability of nitrogen can lead to severe alterations of the nitrogen cycle in ecosystems, i ncreases in nitrogen can often lead to hypoxia (low oxygen), decrease in biodiversity, changes in foodweb, and many other harms to the environment.
The carbon cycle is the process by which carbon compounds are circulated throughout the environment, such as carbon dioxide into living tissue by photosynthesis and its return to the atmosphere through respiration, the decay of dead organisms, and the burning of fossil fuels. Carbon is an essential part of the environment. Humans impact the
Human Impact on the Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus Cycles Danielle Abbadusky Everest University Human impact on the cycling matter in ecosystems can change a lot of things. Humans can either help or hurt things. The carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus cycles are the three cycles of matter in ecosystems. What are these cycles? How do humans effect each one of these individual cycles? What are some examples of humans effecting these cycles? What is the carbon cycle? “Sequence of processes through…
Ecosystem Cycles Environmental Science-26 April 23rd, 2013 There is no denying that humans have an impact on the various cycles. However some of those impacts can be good, and unfortunately some of those impacts can severly hurt the way the cylcles in the ecosystem functions. The effects can be a result of the activity that humans elect to engage in, and some of those activities unfortunately impact the cycles of the ecosystem negatively. This is why it is important for humans to be knowledgable…
Chingman Chee Prof. Poffenroth UNVS 96 GB Junior Year December 1, 2014 The impact on Tropical Rainforest Deforestation What is Rainforest Deforestation? The term raiforest deforestation can be described as all trees are removed or harvested by humans in an area. Originally, the earth was covered by approximately 14.8 billion acres of forest by 8,000 years ago (Rainforest Alliance 1999). By the past 50 yeas ago, whereas deforestation was happened by the government development projects or subsistence…
many elements within an ecosystem. Discuss how various types of organisms and their biochemical reactions contribute to the recycling of either carbon or nitrogen in an ecosystem. Include in your answer one way in which human activity has an impact on the nutrient cycle you have chosen. Exercise 1. Part 1) How does a class being conducted online instead of on campus increase or decrease the classes' contribution to the carbon cycle during the term? Consider the differences between the two in terms of methods of travel, and use of facilities, energy, and other resources. Remember to focus on the impact to the carbon cycle. 1. Online classes are time efficient, less polluting and save schools money on utilities such as water and electricity. Going to on campus classes pollutes…
Explain the human and biophysical factors which place at least two ecosystems at risk Ecosystems are often depicted as the interactions between flora and fauna through physical processes and chemical means. All ecosystems are somewhat vulnerable however they all differ based on their level of vulnerability and adaptation to change which is typically caused by biophysical factors and human impacts. Cronulla sand dunes and the Amazon rainforest are two varying ecosystems which are affected by the…
which will ultimately affect the well being and health of the humans themselves. Humans play a significant role in the quality of the environment and atmosphere based on the actions they take each day. Depending on the actions they take, the environment and atmosphere can be affected both positively or negatively. The health of the environment and the health of living orga .nisms on Earth, ultimately affect each other in a cycle. For instance, an unstable and unhealthy environment results in the deterioration of the health of…
of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work." III. Environmental Sustainability: Sustainability is the capacity to endure. For humans it is the potential for long-term maintenance of wellbeing, which in turn depends on the wellbeing of the natural world and the responsible use of natural resources. Environmental sustainability means that resources should not be depleted faster than…
Notes PROBLEMS/HUMAN INTERVENTION Two Human impacts- Deforestation and Global Warming DEFORESTATION. * The state of being clear of trees. * Trees are one of the most important aspects we live in. Causes * Urban construction- deforestation for expanding Urban lands. * Agriculture- growing crops, farms for food supply. * Fuels- used as firewood or made into charcoals, being used in heating houses or in cooking. EFFECTS * Distribution of Water cycle- trees are one of…
occur at each stage of a product’s life-cycle, from extraction to disposal. The effects can either direct (such as air emissions produced from automobile) or indirect (such as the pollution of electricity used in manufacturing process) (LeVan). Thus, life-cycle assessment is used popularly today to quantify these direct and indirect effects of a product and…
