Social Media Thinking back to when I graduated high school, I never would have imagined all the information that is now available to the general population. With just a personal computer, laptop, or smart phone, along with an internet signal, we are able to connect with people, places and information never before thought possible. We are truly living in the “Information Age”. The advances in technology have made it easier than ever before to keep in touch with family and friends, stay up to date with current events happening all over the world, and obtain knowledge that we might not have had access to in the past. With a world of information literally at our fingertips we as a society have to remember that not only does this technology come to us with its advantages, it comes with its disadvantages, as well. One of the most-obvious advantages of having easily obtainable information through the internet is the amount of information that is available to us. We are able to find information about any subject we can dream of. Again, one of the most-obvious disadvantages is the amount of information available. With so many different websites offering so many different services or sources of information, it is difficult to judge what information is correct and what information is not. As the amount of information available to us increases, we must also learn how to differentiate what is true and what may not be so true. We must all remember that the internet may not always have our best interests at heart, so we still have to do our homework and check the sources of the information that we are trying to obtain for its validity. Social Media also has its advantages and disadvantages. I believe the reason social media has become so popular in today’s society is because of its ability to reach the masses. We are able to keep in touch with family and friends, follow our favorite actors, artists, or sports heroes much easier than ever before. We are able to communicate with people and cultures across the globe in a matter
