Introduction

The purpose of this report is to explain the incident management process. In this report you will find the common incidents at workplace and how to avoid them. Also, you will have information about steps you would take to investigate and record the incident.

How I would implement risk control strategies to overcome the following WHS problems?

Back strain due to lifting heavy objects
Use of engineering controls: Firstly, I will change workstation layout, which might include using height adjustable workbenches or locate tools and materials within short reaching distances. This will assist in eliminating or reducing the risk factors of back strain. Then, using mechanical lifting aids will be compulsory to all staff when lifting heavy loads.
Use of administrative controls: There will be a job rotation to limit the duration the lifting is conducted and recovery time between lifting tasks to reduce the risk of back injuries. Staff will have enough training to understand two- man policies and weight lifting limits. Also, proper lifting techniques will be provided to modify work practices.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE): Back belts will be used as a control for back injuries.
Staff falling from ladders reaching for stock stored on shelving above standing height above the ground
Use of engineering controls: By using boom lifts, staff will be protected in preventing falls.
Use of administrative controls: Relevant workers will have information, instruction and training to use boom lift. They will also be trained in safe operation.
Staff cutting their hands when moving objects with sharp edges
Use of engineering controls: Staff will use relevant machines such as fork lift, trolleys and pallet jack when moving object with sharp edges. For smaller items, padding or wrapping will be used to be fitted to sharp edges.
Use of administrative controls: Staff will be trained in how to use the machines to understand system of work when moving objects with sharp edges.
Use of personal protective equipment: Different sizes of glove will be provided to suit the range of employees. Staff will be using gloves and armbands when moving objects with sharp edges.
