Destiny Do we control what happens to us in our lives, or do we have a destiny? How do we explain some of the things that happen to us in our lives? These questions have been asked frequently by many people. This question does not have a solid answer, it’s a matter of what you believe. Some may think that the things we do effect what happens in our future, others believe that we each have a set plan that will fulfill itself. “Destiny is often seen as either a fixed sequence of events that is inevitable and unchangeable.” Christianity is a religion believed by many. The bible often talks about a plan for you made by god, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’” (Jeremiah 1:4-5). The bible also says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” The Greeks and the Romans also believed in destiny. The Greeks had a goddess of fate, Moirai, and her roman equivalent, Parcae. The Greeks and Romans believed that Moirai and Parcae “controlled the metaphorical thread of life of every mortal form birth to death.” Making choices that effect our destination is a different story.
