How to Housebreak your Dog
Having a new adorable dog can be excited, fun and can be very messy. Housebreaking your dog can be challenging and sometimes frustrating task. But with patience and consistency you can achieve your goal housebreaking your dog, also develop a schedule for potty your dog. Before your dog comes home buy all the necessary supplies that’s needed to care for your dog properly. You will need training pads or crate if preferred, leash, food, water bowl and cleaning product like Clorox bleach and Pine-Sol. First when your dog comes home, pick a small designated area in your house close to a door, layout two or three training pads on the floor close together and coach your dog to potty on the training pads. Then look for signs when your dog wants to potty, such as turning in circle, going from room to room, sitting by the door, sniffing around and barking. Then develop a schedule and be consistent, this is the key to a housebroken dog. If you feed and walk your dog early one day, you should continue to do so every day. By developing a routine for your dog to follow, you are teaching him or her to expect exercise and food at certain times of the day. When you are away from home use a Crate to maintain your dog’s housebreaking habits. If your dog spent several hours in a crate you will need to take him or her directly to their bathroom spot as soon as you let him or her out. Schedule potty breaks for first thing in the morning, along with several other times throughout the day after each meal, after napping and long play sessions. Taking the dog on a leash for walks at the same time everyday also helps maintain consistency. Pick a spot for outside potty and take your dog to the same spot using a leash .While your dog potties also use a phrase like “go potty”, and always use this phrase before your dog go potty. Reward your dog with treats or praise him or her after eliminating outdoors it is the only way he or she know what’s expected of him or her.
