. Antagonist- The Misfit
2. Atmosphere- The story begins with a middle southern family driving on their way to Florida from Tennessee. The family is traveling through the country side. Based on their language and terms they used to refer to African Americans, it could be set pre-Civil Rights movements, 50s or early 60s.
3. Climax- The climax begins after the car accident and a car with three individuals arrive to help them. The grandmother identifies the leader as the Misfit which seals the family’s doom. The Misfit and his gang then takes the members of the grandmother to the woods where they are killed. The climax ends with the Misfit shooting the grandmother.
4. Conflict- The conflict is with the Grandmother and the Misfit. The grandmother knows her family is in danger so she tries to talk the Misfit out of harming them. She tries to convince the Misfit he is a good man at heart and not a bit common. The Misfit tells the grandmother that he is not a good man.
5. Epiphany- The moment of epiphany occurs when the grandmother realizes the Misfit is one of her own children. This happens right before he shoots her.
6. Foreshadowing- Foreshadowing begins at the very beginning of the story when the family is preparing to go on the trip. The grandmother is trying to talk her son out of going to Florida by showing him the Journal with a story on the Misfit. She is trying to convince him that it was not safe to travel in the direction where a criminal such as the Misfit is on
