Note: Some questions in this Assessment will ask you to relate your work to a specific organisation. For example, this could be: • Your current place of work (if you have a part-time job, do voluntary work, etc) • Your current place of learning (school, college, etc) • An organisation that is familiar to you (you have worked there in the past, done work experience there, a friend / family member works there, etc)
Identify four main points that would be included in a contract of employment. What is the purpose of each of these points?
1. Salary and when your expected pay date is important. This is important so the employee has written confirmation of how much and when they should get paid. The employer also has a written copy. The section may also include expected pay reviews. 2. Hours expected is an important inclusion in the contract. It will state the hours the employee is expected to work and what over-time provisions there are. For example some might get days in lieu for overtime worked and others might have extra pay.
3. Holiday entitlement, an employee who works full time is legally entitled to 28 days a year. Part time employees are entitled to a pro rata amount. Full time members of staff may gain more holidays the longer they are with a company. This will be written in to the employment contract.
4. Termination of contract by either employee or employer needs to be written in to the contract. This gives either party a legal stand point if either the employee or employer breaks the agreement. Different companies will have longer notice periods, and some have longer periods for the amount of time spent with the company.

This can benefit the employer because they will choose the right person for the job and they will have placed a more effective person in the role which will hopefully make the job more productive.
The right to provide notice benefits the employer because it ensures that an employee must give a months notice allowing the employer time to replace them before or close to their intended departure date.
Every employee has the right to a contract; this benefits the employer because an employee will have to sign the contract agreeing to the terms and conditions. If any of the terms or conditions are broken, the employer has a right to disciplinary actions if it is deemed needed.
2b) Outline three key points of legislation that affect employees in a business environment. Explain the purpose of these points of legislation.
Minimum Wage legislation states that if you are above compulsory school age there is a minimum wage that employers have to pay you. The purpose of this is to make sure everyone gets a fair wage in line with the cost of living.
Anti-discrimination and entitlement legislation, means that you cannot be discriminated against due to gender, race, age, disability, religion or beliefs, gender reassignment, sexual orientation,
