Horace holds a great title in Roman history as not only a distinguished poet, but a man of inspiring words. He was greatly respected by Augustus, another man; a man who had found Rome “a city of bricks, and left it a city of marble.” The words of Horace have greatly influenced the human mind to think to make something much more than it is. In the Odes, I.9, Horace connects his mind with what is the most common amongst human wonders. He tell us to take for gratitude what the day has brought, and let go of the thoughts of what is to approach tomorrow. A single statement has the ability to interchange meanings, but from what is portrayed in my context of this statement, I am able to differ. Because we plan for whatever crosses our path, in due time, we have become successful over the centuries in multiple areas. We cannot elude the fact that it is nearly impossible to not think about the stores of the future. Although I am able to agree with Horace to a certain degree, my overall stand is a disagreement.
Whether it goes from advances in technology, systems of education, and even the government itself, there is only one main factor that lead to these advances. These advances can be considered success, because we as a society, have managed to move from one era to another improvement in our development of ideas. It is undeniable that our everyday life consists of planning ahead. It takes the mind time to process what could happen if a government was set up, and whatever did happen would act as the conclusion of our thoughts. Horace uses the Latin term “cras” after “futurum”, which can be translated somewhat to “tomorrow will” to emphasize that he is referring time as to days. This indicates that he believes it is common we tend to act after a day’s worth of wait. We are fully cautious about experimenting with humans, but if we do not give it to thought how people would react to a certain idea, egregious or not, then the rules of the world would be senseless.
