Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a special administrative region of the People’s Republic in China. It located at China’s south coast and called by Pearl River Delta and South China Sea. Hong Kong population came with 7 million people, and it is the one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Hong Kong’s population contains 95% of Guangdong (Province) Chinese descendants and 5% from the other country. Hong Kong used to be a colony by British Empire in 1842s after China lost the First Opium War against Great Britain. In July of 1997, Hong Kong was handed back to the Chinese authorities who ended more than 150 years of British control. In additional, Hong Kong is the one of the world’s leading international financial centers, which has a strong economy with low taxation and free trade. And the currency of Hong Kong dollar is 8th of the world of traded. Hong Kong is located at the southeast coast of china. It comprises three main territories in Hong Kong which are Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories. Hong Kong Island is an island that located in the southern part of Hong Kong. It has a population approximately of 1,289,599 people. The Kowloon is located northern part of the main landmass in Hong Kong. It also called New Kowloon. Kowloon is an urban area Hong Kong. It has population of 2,019,533. New Territories is a main region of the three regions in Hong Kong. It makes up almost 86.2% of Hong Kong’s territory. It has a population of 3,691,093 peoples.

In Hong Kong, the official languages are the English and Chinese (Cantonese), English became the sole official language of Hong Kong because Hong Kong was a colony of British before 1997. English and Cantonese are both under Hong Kong Basic Law and the official language ordinance Law. For Cantonese speaker, 97% of the population in Hong Kong, it is originating from Guangzhou in China. It is the main variety used in education, broadcasting, government administration, legislature and judiciary in daily social communication.

In Hong Kong, a large variety of religious group which included Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, and Jainism. Most of the people in Hong Kong believe in Buddhism due to China’s influence. In 2010, the religion of Buddhists is up to approximately 1.5 million Buddhists. Most of the Hong Kong people would claim no religious affiliation such as agnosticism, atheism or indifference towards religions, because Hong Kong has a religious freedom rights protected by the Basic Law and relevant legislation. The politics in Hong Kong is take place from the framework of a political system dominated by China. On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong was transferred to People’s Republic of China control. Hong Kong has Special Administrative Region status which is provided constitutional guarantees for implementing the policy of “One country, two systems”. And the head of government in Hong Kong is called “The Chief Executive” it’s elected indirectly by Electoral College, the majority members of legislative.

The GPD in Hong Kong is contracted 0.10% in the second quarter of 2012. From 1990 to 2012, the GPR in Hong Kong Growth Rate averaged 0.98%, it provides an aggregated measure to changes in value of the goods and services produced by economy. Moreover, the Hong Kong dollar is the eighth most traded currency in the world. It pegged with United States dollar is $1 USD = $7.75HKD. In additional, the greatest challenge of Hong Kong needs to face is solve the unemployment crisis. The unemployment rate in Hong Kong became a hot topic in the past few months when it rose to 3.5%. It raised many social and economic problems. For example: people suicide is increased because people lost their jobs a long time.
