Homework 3B

1. All three of these men did not do a great job of managing the situation. They all made their own mistakes.
George W. Bush—the white house did not take the need for help seriously from Mr. Brown and therefore urgency was not given to it on a federal level.
Michael Chertoff—like the white house Chertoff did not comprehend the urgency of the situation and did not delegate and push paper work to get things moving.
D. Brown—he was not able to clearly state what is happening and make people understands. Also, since the situation was so big he cracked under the pressure and wasn’t really able to manage it. He was not able to take charge and tell people what has to be done.

2. I would attribute a small amount to organizational factors. If Mr. Brown has the personal ability to handle a situation like that then there would not have been organizational factors. People in charge are put there for a reason, they get things done.
3. I cannot compare the two men because they were not in the same situation. Brown was in the initial stages right before and right after it happened. The General came in after it happened, and the whole world knew about it. However, the reason the General was able to get it done was since everyone knew the seriousness of it, help and resources were very quick to arrive. That is why it seems he was better able to handle it.
4. I agree with the general. You cannot boss people around that will only get you so much cooperation.
