Homelessness! Do you really know what it means to be homeless? Do you know how it feels to be homeless? I do. I have experienced it firsthand. You do not know what you are going to eat. You have no clue where you and your family, if you have kids or spouse, are going to sleep. The people that you thought would help or be in your corner during hard times are nowhere to be found. When you out searching for help, you find out that there is no funding or grants that can be offered because of homelessness. No one has any money for that anymore. According to National Alliance to End Homelessness, homelessness is a complex problem, fraught with many associated challenges and variables. Homelessness transpires when individuals or households are incapable to attain and/or maintain housing they can afford. The main reason why people experience homelessness is because they cannot find affordable housing. Affordable housing is hard to find in the United States, particularly in the urban areas where homelessness is higher. There are over 600 thousand of people experiencing homelessness in the United States. This was taken from HUD (Housing of Urban Development). These numbers were conducted by communities. Families become homeless as a result of some unforeseen financial crisis like a medical emergency, a car accident, a death in the family or something of that nature that prevents them from being able to hold on to housing. There are homeless people in every city. You can go anywhere in america and you will find a homeless person. The amount of homeless people that we have in America exceeds the emergency shelter and housing that we have available for them (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, 2004). In my research, there are agencies that are trying to find answers or a remedy to decrease this growing problem. We need more places like Grace Centers of Hope organization that is located in Michigan. This center provides so much for the homeless. It provides safety and protection. It also provides security, refuge, and many other programs to help families rebuild themselves. This center give individuals hope to see a brighter future and hope that they will be back on their feet sooner than later. Family Promise, located here in Atlanta, is an organization that help homeless families rebuild substantial independence. They are located in 41states so far. This is how they accomplish the work they do with other affiliates to help reduce the rate of homelessness. They provide many things for the homeless such as food, shelter, advice, advocacy, and more. They are striving to get more affiliates and get connected to others who are willing to help reduce the growth of homelessness. They have served so many people that include about tens of thousands as homeless families who found temporary homes. These are the types of places that we need to make sure that the homeless community is reducing instead of increasing. Johnson, Gronda and Coutts take us into the day-to-day lives of homeless people. They highlight the creativity and resilience of the homeless. They
