In the painting

, the author portrays certain ideas, and aspects of life at concentration camps. Near the beginning of
Night
, Elie Wiesel and his father are separated from his mother and sisters forever, because the S.S. officer says “Men to the left! Women to the right!” The women would go to the right and into the gas chambers to die, and the men would go to the left and work until they died or were rescued. In the painting, both men are looking to the left, and the women is looking to right, reiterating their first experience at the death camps. Also on the wall behind the three people, the women’s shadow is missing, also relating back to the fact that when women and children first arrived at the camp they were killed. On the back wall in
Threesome
, there is a map covered in shadows by the man wearing his shaw. The shadow over the map portrays the inmates idea that the other countries had no idea of what was happening, and even the people arriving at the camp didn’t know it existed. In Wiesel’s recounting of his experiences in Auschwitz, he recalls someone reading them the name of the station and “Nobody had ever heard that name,” which strengthens the ideas of how it is completely possible that the outside world had no clue of what was happening, since they had no idea what was about to happen to them.
