Abstract
This paper is about the history of police in America. This paper will describe the impact of Sir Robert Peel on American policing. Also, it will discuss the different stages of police in America. In addition, it will analyze the relationship between the government and the policing organizations throughout the United States.

There were changes in the forces to improve the professionalism of police and new technology. The era saw changes such as the telephone and the patrol car(Schmalleger, 2009). The two principal forces for change were an organized movement for police professionalism, and the introduction of modern technology. The reforms of professionalism took many years, but it improved police because they implemented more of a military style of doing things(Schmalleger, 2009). The telephone improved communication within the officers. This was a huge innovation because citizens could easily just call the police if something happened.
Also, police cars were introduced. This allowed a fast response to citizens needing assistance.
Along with the patrol car, the two-way radio was introduced also. This allowed more supervision within the police department. During
