Hippocratic Oath

I promise to perform, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will respect knowledge of physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share knowledge of mine for those who will follow.

I will apply this promise, for the sick, in all measures that are required, avoiding those traps of favoritism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine and science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon’s knife and or prescribed drugs.

I will not be ashamed to say I don’t know nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when I need help for a patient's recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not told to me so that the world may know. I must handle with care when it comes to life and death. The same awesome power I have to save a life, all thanks, but within that same power to take a life; this responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I will not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, or a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems I am to care promptly for the sick.

I will prevent disease whenever I can.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all human beings, those with a sound mind and body.
