“I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you” (Bryan Mills, Taken). Taken is a movie that shows the true value of a hero and I believe this quote stated by Bryan, one of the main actors says it all. Bryan Mills is a divorced man that lives his ordinary world in California as a retired Government Agent. His daughter Kim, whom is seventeen years old, is another main actress in the movie that lives with her mother Lenore and rich step father Stuart in a mansion. Bryan was asked to work as security for a pop star named Sheerah’s concert by his friend Sam whom is another retired Government Agent.
When Bryan was at work, he got a call from his daughter Kim asking if he would like to meet for lunch. When Bryan showed up for lunch, it happened to be that Lenore, Kim’s mother was joining them also. Lenore confronted Bryan with a parental-consent form that Kim needs to take a vacation to Paris with her friend Amanda. Bryan being a protective father is not too happy with the idea and tells Kim that she is too young and will be in danger, but then tells her he will think about it. Kim takes it that her dad will not let her go and becomes very upset, then Lenore yells at Bryan that their daughter needs to experience life she should have the right to go on vacation. The next day Bryan shows up at Lenore and Stuart’s house with the signed consent and a pre paid international cell phone. He also tells Kim that she has to call him when she lands in Paris, and every night telling him every new place she will be sleeping at with exact address. As Kim is being dropped off at the airport, Bryan finds a map of Europe circled with all the cities she will be going to, he is very upset but he knows that it is too late to do anything about it.
As Kim and Amanda arrive in Paris, they are waiting for a taxi but then meet a young handsome man named Peter that suggests they all share the expensive ride. Peter tells the driver to drop of the girls first and invites the girls to a party later that night. As soon as they are dropped off, Peter immediately makes a phone call saying “two girls, about eighteen” and the address of the apartment where they are staying at. Amanda is overly excited about meeting Peter and tells Kim that she wants to have sex with him.
Bryan anxiously waiting for Kim’s call decided to check when their plane landed and finds out they arrived safely. He tries to call Kim numerous times; however she has not answered because Amanda cranked up music in the apartment and she was not able to hear the phone call. Finally Kim sees that her dad has been trying to get a hold of her and she walks into a different room so she could hear him but then suddenly she hears screaming and sees two men carrying her friend Amanda out of the apartment. Then it all began, Bryan’s call to adventure appears as she tells her dad what is happening to them. He quickly takes full control and tells her that she needs to hide under the bed because they will take her next. He orders her to leave her phone on and shout out what their appearance is like in as much detail as she can. Bryan holds a tape recorder to his phone so that he could hear the conversation and sound of their voice repeatedly. The kidnapper answers the phone and talks with Bryan and this is the part where he tells him he doesn’t know who he is but he will find him and kill him and the kidnapper responds in a thick accent saying “good luck.”
Bryan did not refuse the call, he knew that was his baby girl and he had to save her. He began to
My Hero’s Journey Origin Drew Fuller was a naïve guy who was also very witty and intelligent. He had dark brown hair that he would always spike up and dreamy hazel eyes. His parents perished in a horrid fire when he was only a toddler. Ever since that tragic event, he was left with nothing but memories. He grew up as an outcast…
of Gilgamesh fit Joseph Campbell’s idea of the hero’s journey. After analyzing the pieces to the hero’s journey, Gilgamesh is proven to be a true hero because his journey parallels that of the hero’s journey described by Campbell. The latter part of this paper will prove Gilgamesh is a hero using Campbell’s model, by analyzing the pieces of the hero’s journey: separation or departure, the initiation, and the return. The first element of the hero’s…
hero have expanded unlimitedly. Now since so many heroes may exist in the past, present, and even the future, analyzing their ways is burdensome. Heroes come and go too quickly for people to look into their journeys and learn from them. And that is a reason why monomyths, or the hero’s journey exists. These myths are recorded, so these heroes will stay put, allowing the readers or the listeners to get an insight on heroes. Heroes exist in different times and spaces, but they are similar in many ways…

Joseph Campbell’s term monomyth can be described as a hero’s journey. Many heroic characters follow the monomyth, no matter the time period or culture the literature was created in. The poem Beowulf is known to follow the adventure of the hero described in Campbell’s monomyth . The hero’s journey consists of three rites of passages: separation, initiation, and return. Beowulf endures each of these stages throughout the epic poem, so his journey does follow Campbell’s monomyth. The separation is…
The Hero’s Journey The hero I have chosen is Meriwether Lewis. There are 12 parts to his journey. They are: the ordinary world, the call t adventure, refusal of the quest, accepting the call, entering the unknown, supernatural aid, a talisman, allies or helpers, tests and the supreme ordeal, rewards and the journey home, and, finally, master of two worlds and restoring the world. Captain Lewis’s ordinary world was uneventful. Lewis’s simple life consisted of advising President Jefferson, commanding…

The Hero’s Journey Similarly to many common heroic tales, the movie, The Lion King follows the established cycle known as the hero’s journey. In the tale, a young lion prince, Simba, must overcome his one mistake in order to save his kingdom, and thus ventures off to rediscover himself.
