Assignment 3, Unit 6
In this part of the assignment I will be explaining five different types of learning that may have influences on individuals. Firstly I would like to think time has a huge impact on individuals learning as it is valuable especially for those who are in education as there would be deadline involved. Not everyone is able to work at the same level, some take longer than others when it comes to learning. This can be a barrier to learning as it may result to missing deadlines and handing in work late. Secondly another influence on individuals learning may be relationships with either friends, family or just peers. This could influence could be both positive and negative. It can be negative for the reason that individuals may be pressured by friends to go out instead of completing assignments causing the work to be rushed and handed in late. This can also be positive as having good relationships with family may result to having enough concentration on assignments in order to get them done and handed in on time. Thirdly a different influence on learning may be the lack of motivation. Individuals may feel as if they don’t have motivation, they will not get on with work and won’t be delighted in it. If this takes place no work will be done and individuals may fall behind on work. Another influence on learning may be previous educational experience, as it helps individuals understand their strengths and weaknesses and where they stand with their education. This may also influence individuals as they would have gained the knowledge that will help them further in their education. As well as that another influence on learning may be health. Health can be a barrier to learning when an individual becomes ill. This causes the individual to lack the capability to function right, and becoming ill means not attending classes and being behind on work
The Honey and Mumford Learning style
The honey and Mumford Learning style determine the things people learn and the easiness in which they learn them, they also have a huge influence on learning. The Learning Styles highlights individual learning style preferences, supplies people with the necessary purpose in choosing learning opportunities, and shows them how to expand their repertoire and become the all-round learners vital to the success of your business. Also included in this are four types of learning styles: Activists, Reflectors, Theorists and the Pragmatists. The activist mainly are for those who prefer to have a go before asking for help. The reflector is mainly for those who prefer to be taught briefly before proceeding. The theorists mainly prefer to be reassured that the task makes sense. The pragmatists mainly prefer to have demonstration from a known expert.
David Kolb
David Kolb put forward a theory of experimental learning that was publish in 1984 from which he developed his learning style list. Kolb's experimental learning works on two levels, one of those being four stages cycle of learning and four separate learning styles. The first stage in the cycle is the concentrate experiment which is essentially finding or doing a chosen experiment, for example learning how to paint. The second stage is the reflective observation, meaning that in order to learn the chosen experiment individuals would have to reflect or review in ways to carry out the experiment, just like in my example if an individual wanted to learn how to paint he/she would perhaps watch a YouTube video to find ways to learn how to paint. The third stage in the cycle is the abstract conceptualisation, in this stage the individual would sum up what they’ve learnt from the experiment, referring back to my example the individual learning how to paint would perhaps take notes as well as gather either the same or similar equipment’s to use for the
