1 SIGNIFICANCE

The significance of this report is to identify and investigate the workplace health, safety and sustainability issues that are occurring at Star Realty and to submit a range of solutions to address the problems. This will create a safer workplace and more efficient and effective environment at Star Realty for not only staff members but also workers and visitors. This report goes into excessive detail about work cover and what circumstances in which you can require it. Environmental sustainability which covers office appliances and hazards. Management and workplace health and safety issues including the risk analysis in the workplace and lastly recommendations. This report is likely to beneficial to any business which is looking to be more environmentally friendly, save money and reduce any workplace health and safety issues.

This report is limited to a report on events at Star Realty.

2.0 WORK COVER

Work Cover Queensland is a statutory authority providing insurance coverage for Queensland employers. Their main role involves compensating and helping injured workers when they get work related injuries. They offer insurance products in accordance with Queensland worker’s compensation legislation.

2.1 WORK COVER LEGISLATION

Work Cover Queensland’s sole reason of existence is to provide insurance for all employees who acquire assistance related to work related injuries. Rehabilitation is a key focus of Work Cover Legislation as it is important that the injured worker goes back to work as soon as they have recovered. Recovering from a work related injury is an important step when returning to work as soon as possible. It means that the employee can return to their normal working routine. Often this reduces the financial and emotional impact on themselves and family. Returning to work can consist of going back to your old job or another job.

Furthermore if you get injured at work there is no guarantee that you will get time off work. Continuing to work during your rehabilitation, called stay at work, is often the best thing for you to do. This may cause you to reduce your hours or do lighter duties.

2.2 ACCIDENT INSURANCE
Employers are required to have accident insurance for their employees as it is compulsory to employ workers in Queensland that have accident insurance unless you are a licensed self-insurer. If you are uninsured or you are under-insured you may be liable to pay a penalty. They are also entitled to recover from you the unpaid premium together with a further penalty based upon the value of the unpaid premium. Workers are still eligible for workers’ compensation if their employer is uninsured, therefore they must pay compensation to the worker if they are entitled to compensation.
