On a cold winter afternoon in my neighborhood, a man described in the middle thirties tried to break into an older ladies house. She was home at the time and threatens to shoot him if he did vacate her home. At the same time this was going on, she had place an emergency call reporting the incident. Culminating with drive by shootings, where innocent by standers are killed, happens too frequent in the United States. Although, a gun has never injured, killed any human being or animal. However men have injured and killed millions; therefore by having legislation and psychological test and restriction on what type of weapons can be purchase may decrease the rate of violent crimes.
Because of the growing rate of gun related crimes there have been several pieces of legislation pass or propose by the states and government aim take control of these violent crimes being committed. In these following states New York, New Mexico, Minnesota, and Wisconsin have all pass restrictive gun control laws, banning concealed handguns. However these states have 80% higher less violent crime rates then states with loose gun laws: Arizona, Texas, Georgia, and North Dakota In those same states, murder is 27% higher than the states with the loose laws. Though there are certainly other factors that contribute to the higher rates, gun control laws are one of the bigger players. According to (John Lott), the reason for this is criminals in the states with these strict gun laws have fear about their victims having guns to defend themselves; it’s against the law for them to have any, the irony of things. It’s alarming to see that they are being committed by criminals with revolving criminal records, but with the current mandatory minimums sentences are directed to nonviolent drug offenses, resulting in dangerous criminals being released early. The U.S judicial system has their priorities mix up. A firefighter was killed just a few days ago; his life was taken by a convicted murderer with a long criminal record who served only 15years for murder. C. The banning of firearms in America can be look at as an illegal act, and would go against the values this great country of ours was founded on. Guns play a very important role in many American lives, they are useful tools, you get a rush when being used, and can protect people from harm. Our founding fathers wanted us to have them to protect ourselves from the tyranny of government. They would be disappointed at the government's current abuse, and blatant disregard of the constitution of the United States. A lot of American citizens would argue that guns kill people; this is untrue point of view.
