Percy Jackson a twelve year old kid, who is diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, has been expelled many times. During a school field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, his pre-algebra teacher, Mrs. Dodds, attacks Percy, revealing that she is one of the three Furies. Percy has been having several problems with his stepfather, Gabe Ugliano, a man who mistreats both Percy and Percy's mother, Sally. Grover Underwood his best friend warns the two of them that Percy is in danger. Sally drives them both to Camp Half-Blood, a camp for demigods, where he can train and be protected. At that moment Percy knew that there was something wrong. Percy didn’t know anything that was going on. Percy questions Ares and discovers that Ares stole the master bolt and helm of darkness from the original thief. Ares has been tempted by the possibility of sparking one of the biggest wars of all time between the Big Three: Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Percy and Ares battle it out on the beach, and Percy wounds Ares, winning the helm of darkness. Ares curses Percy. Percy returns the helm of darkness to Hades and takes a plane to New York City where he finds Mount Olympus on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building. Percy meets Poseidon and Zeus for the first time and tells them everything that he knows and suspects. He tells them that he believes Kronos, king of the Titans who ruled in the age before the Greek gods, is getting ready to wage war on the Olympians (the Greek gods and goddesses). Percy has been having dreams about Kronos in which Kronos talks to him. Zeus doesn't want to hear it. Poseidon tells Percy that he is proud of him and that he must make a choice whether he wants to stay at camp half blood or go home to his mom's apartment in Queens, NY.

1. On the way there, they are attacked by the Minotaur, which grabs Percy's mother by her throat. She then dissolves into a golden shower of light. Percy was angered with the Minotaur for thinking that it killed his mother. Then Percy goes after the Minotaur and defeats him using the Minotaur's own horn. 2. Percy then stumbles into the camp semi-conscious carried by Grover. He learns that he is a half-blood: half-human, half-god. At camp, Percy learns more information about himself and especially his father Poseidon, God of the Sea and brother to Zeus and Hades. 3. When Zeus's master bolt is stolen, Poseidon is blamed for the theft. Zeus tells Poseidon that the master bolt must be returned to Mount Olympus by the summer solstice, or else he will declare war on Poseidon. Poseidon is surprised that his brother Zeus would even accuse him of such a thing. 4. Percy sets out on a quest to retrieve Zeus's master bolt, which is believed to be in Hades' captivity in the Underworld. Percy has to travel west to reach the entrance to the Underworld in Hollywood. His best friend, Grover with Annabeth, a demigoddess, and daughter of Athena decided to go along with Percy. 5. The three take a bus, a train, a truck, and a taxi cab to make their way across America, from New York to Los Angeles, where the gates of the Underworld are located. They stop in St. Louis, Denver, and Las Vegas along the way.
6. They find a disaster on the observation deck of the Gateway Arch, they are tricked by the god of war (Ares), they nearly lose their memories in an enchanted Vegas casino, and they are almost stretched to death.
7. They encounter Greek monsters, including the Furies, Medusa, Echidna, the
