In both the story and the novel there is a certain attitude of wealth is not a guarantee for happiness. When Richard from the poem Richard Cory was walking people of the town admired him and thought since he had it all the looks and the money that it meant he was happy but then he killed himself. “Went home and put a bullet through his head” (Robinson). The theme of being happy but not truly being happy is repeated in this poem by Richard Cory walking around town with his head high and nice looks portrays a rich and being happy feeling but when he kills himself it’s a new feeling of him not being happy but completely depressed.
