“Genetics’ Journey Through the Abyss of Literature”

The Abyss of Literature has many portal and gateways you could through to personify stories or a piece of writing. One of these portals is called the Portal of Genetics. The Portal of Genetics is a very intriguing chasm. First off, what does the portal of genetics behold? The Portal of Genetics embodies branches of science that deals with heredity, such as family and genes. What are genes? Genes are units of heredity that is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristics of the offspring. Heredity describes how some traits are passed from parents to their children. The traits are expressed by genes, which are small sections of DNA that are coded for specific traits. Some genes can be classified as homogeneity. Homogeneity is the state of being homogeneous. By using the Portal of Genetics I can connect the four short stories in Unit 3 Part 2 (“Keep Memory Alive” p.500, “from Nobel Lecture” p.505, “What Makes a Degas a Degas?” p.520, and “The American Idea” p. 527) in several similarities.

Exploring these stories in Unit 3 Part 2 impacted me on taking this gateway into genetics. Using genetics, I classified the story “Keep Memory Alive” and “from Nobel Lecture” as the two parents; symbolizing “Keep Memory Alive” as “AA” and “from Nobel Lecture as “BB”. Perception displays homogeneity. Homogeneity is defined as the dominance of a single domain, independent of number of other available domains within a group. The short story “Keep Memory Alive” was about speaking out for what you believe in and unity. I validated my allegation when the writer said “And then I explained to him how naïve we were, that the world did know and remain silent. And that is why I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor never
