In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, the theme of money plays a major role throughout the novel. During the story, the rich, primarily Tom and Daisy, have a sense of carelessness to them “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy­they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people pick up the mess they had made.”
