Abbott Laboratories
Abbott was founded in 1888 by Dr. Wallace Abbott. He was a physician in Chicago. Since then, Abbott has expanded into many health care markets. Abbott has become a broad-based health care company that discovers, develops, manufactures and markets products and services that span the continuum of care. This ranges from prevention and diagnosis to the treatment and cure of patients. Abbott’s principle businesses are global pharmaceuticals, nutritional and medical products, including diagnostics and cardiovascular devices. Abbott is currently headquartered in Chicago. They serve customers in over one hundred and thirty countries, with an employee base of approximately 83,000 at more than 100 manufacturing, distribution, research and development, and other locations around the world. The principal market for Abbott’s common shares is the New York Stock Exchange. Shares are also listed on the Chicago Stock Exchange and traded on various regional and electronic exchanges. Outside the United States, Abbott’s shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Swiss Stock Exchange.
