Bataan Death March -The Japanese Army made filipinos and Americans march over 100 miles of land. They were to be executed if they asked for water.

Doolittle's Raid - First attack to Japan in history. A plane was sent off of USS Hornet to bomb mainland Japan. It was too far to reach China.

Battle of the Coral Sea - Japan vs. U.S Major naval battle where both sides never saw eachother. Fought only by carriers. Each side lost a carrier (Lexington & Shokaku) and had a damaged one.

BATTLE OF MIDWAY - 4-7 June 1942- occured a month after battle of the coral sea. Japan wanted to destory the US Navy

OPERATION TEN-GO - last major japanese naval operation. Yamato including 9 other warships were sent to destroys U.S ships but Americans intercepted it.

Battle of Okinawa - "Typhoon of Steel" Lasted 82 days (April-July 1945) Bloody war, only has oral history. Okinawa's are very tiny people and live to be 120yrs. 100,00 died because they did not want to surrender & 12,513 Americans were killed.

Manhattan Project -Top Secret Mission- Truman didn't even know about it until FDR died. It was a program developed bythe U.S, UK and Canada to produce the first atomic bomb.

Enola Gay/Hiroshima - B-29 aircraft that was sent to Hiroshima. Colonel Paul Tibbets assumed charge of the aircraft and named it after his mother. The atomic bomb "little boy" caused a devastating after math.

Nagasaki bombing - Second attack on Japan 3 days later since they did not surrender. The bomb was "fat man". After wards the Japanese surrendered. This attack ended the war, but the US did not have more bombs anyway.

Internment Camps - help in Japan. They were fed, schooled, housed etc.. but had no rights

Potsdam Conference - Where they found out that the Manhattan Project was sucessful. Stallen, Churchhill, and Truman were there. They wanted to threaten Japan with the atomic bomb, but the Japanese said no

. Cairo Conference - Talked about what they would do with the captured territory. US slowly takes back islands one at a time.

Yalta Conference 1945 - U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin made important decisions regarding the future progress of the war and the postwar world. They wanted the Soviet Union to join forces. They agreed that Germany would be divided into 4 occupation zones (US, British, France, Soviet), war criminals would be trialed, germany would have to pay but not as much as WW1, agreed to make the United Nations a place to settle disagreements, we would allow the soviets 3 votes to our 1. Europe would have free elections by the Soviets.

George F. Kennan (Mr. X) - Believed the US should resist Soviet attempts to expand power and influence. "the father of containment" He said that if you didnt allow communism to spread then it would collapse.
