Scene one: The opening scene

Scene one starts off with four cuts that are around two seconds each. I made these short so it acts as an establishing shot. It has soft music at the start, which lets the audience realize that it is an intimate scene. The music works well with the shots, as it allows for the audience to be drawn to what is happening. I chose to put the opening title on one of these shots so it works in without it looking too obvious. There is a shot where Larry and Sue are having a conversation and I cut it to someone walking up the stairs. This shows the audience that someone is coming and it adds suspense. L and J cuts are used through out this scene so that the cuts aren’t so obvious. I didn’t have to use it for two of the cuts because the cuts worked with out it, and also if I had used it the audio wouldn’t of synced up with the picture. There are three cuts where the audio has been taken out so that it didn’t all just combined together. There is a gap so that it runs smoothly. I have added an overlay into a scene of somebody talking in the background where Larry and Sue are talking. This goes back to the person walking up the stairs so the audience knows that someone is coming up to the room.

Scene Three: The dinner scene

The dinner scene was hard to cut properly as when it is a two shot of Sarah and Greg there is a lot of ambience in the background, where as when it is a two shot of Sue and Larry there is no ambience. This made the cuts obvious of where they were cut. To try and fix this up I had to use a lot of key frames to make the sound even. In a few of the cuts we were given had the audio guy in the frame as well, so I was only left with limited frames. I had to use one cut where there is a little bit of smoke as the other frames that were available, didn’t work as well as this one did. So I made the decision to use this frame over the others. I put a overlay of audio in this scene of the telephone ringing. This isn’t very loud so that you can still hear the conversation over the table. I had to cut one of the frames out, where Sue asks Greg ‘if he ever receives work calls.’ This was because all of the cuts were really badly shot and it was unable to use because it made the whole scene look unpleasant.

Scene five: The church scene

I started this scene with a single frame of a statue. This is to set the scene; it shows the audience
