As you read this line you can really picture the lifelessness of the leaves as they’re slumped and withered on the street. I think the author used personification to emphasise how they were positioned on the road and to provide a better mental image.

This short metaphor is very descriptive even though it contains only a few words. As you read it, you can really imagine they rain coming down cold and sharp, stinging your skin like a burn. I think the author used this so that you could really feel and imagine how the rain felt as it came down from the sky.

In the book, this metaphor was used in the scene where
Lisel was hiding a book saved from the bonfire under her shirt. I think it is very fitting because you can imagine how hot the book must have been and the heat causing her to sweat around her throat. However, I think the author also wrote this sentence to describe how Lisel was sweating because she was scared Hans would find out about the book she was hiding.

This metaphor was probably my favorite in the whole book because it describes the scene in a way where the action is similar and the situation remains somewhat the same. ( Max, a jew, handing Nazi propaganda to a young german who could grow up to become a Nazi). In fact, I think that even though the lamb and the butcher seem irrelevant I think the author pictures the Jews as lambs being slaughtered by the butcher
(Nazis).

I think the way the author worded this sentence is very fitting because you can almost hear how harsh, loud and sharp
Hans’ voice was. The author might have used this sentence to let the readers really imagine how Hans’ sounded. This sentence is a simile because it compares using the word “like”.

This sentence was one of my favorites because you can really imagine the sounds of the guns. I think the author used personification (chit chat) to make really seem like the guns are speaking and answering to each other.
