Dissection Lab Manual
The female reproductive system is designed to carry out several functions. It produces the female egg cells necessary for reproduction, called the ova or oocytes.
The system is designed to transport the ova to the site of fertilization. Conception, the fertilization of an egg by a sperm, normally occurs in the fallopian tubes. The next step for the fertilized egg is to implant into the walls of the uterus, beginning the initial stages of pregnancy. If fertilization and/or implantation does not take place, the system is designed to menstruate (the monthly shedding of the uterine lining). In addition, the female reproductive system produces female sex hormones that maintain the reproductive cycle. Hormones are chemicals that circulate in the blood, and they have powerful and varied functions. Different hormones regulate body functions and carry messages from one part of the body to another.
Hormones recognize emotional triggers; they can cause you to cry when you are sad and to react to fear or danger with the ‘fight or flight’ response.
Hormones (during pregnancy) are there to help regulate the many changes taking place to enable your baby to be born safely. Understanding what the hormones are doing may help you understand the changes in your body, and help decide what’s normal and what may not be.

Get your sealed off bag with pig uterus inside drain fluid from bag in the sink before putting uterus on surgical tray spread out uterus evenly on the tray pick one fetus to start working on
Separate fetus from the top of the uterus making it possible to make an incision 6. Make an incision at the dorsal side of the uterus right above the fetus. starting towards the head cutting just about the length of the body of the fetus. 7. once the uterus is cut open take out the fetus that is wrapped in the placenta with umbilical cord still attached
8. cut open the placenta to uncover the fetus and trace the umbilical cord to the other fetuses
9. repeat steps 4-8 on remaining fetuses
10. Begin to identify the veins along the placenta,
11. Once completed, begin fetal dissection
12. Turn fetus over, dorsal
