Trying to visualize a world without food is unimaginable. Fortunately, this is not a reality for people living in developed countries but it is a reality for roughly 925 million people around the world who are hungry. The sad truth is that these aren’t just numbers, they are people. I chose to pick this issue because I have firsthand experience in seeing people starving. My trip to Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa a couple of years ago helped me realize that there are people in this world who are less fortunate. Viewing a donation commercial on television is nothing compared to actually seeing what is happening. I feel as if famine is one of the prominent problems humanity faces to this day. This topic is important to me because I feel as people should be more aware of what is going on in the world. The arrogance in some people really shows when they are willing to pay a couple of dollars for a bag of chips but they do not even think about donating. Famine is the extreme scarcity of food; the fact is that there is enough food to feed the people of the world. The world produces 17% more food per a person than 30 years ago. Awareness should be raised to help the close to a billion people starving. Famine happens all around the world but 98% of the world’s hungry live in developing countries.
