Genome Sequencing better at tracing TB

In this article, a study in Germany determined a new and better way of testing Tuberculosis bacteria and Tuberculosis outbreak than the current test being used today. The researchers that conducted this experiment compared two types of tests. During their study period, it was said that 2301 people were infected with this disease. The team labeled their new test findings as, whole genome sequencing. This type of genome sequence provided more accurate information than the classic genotyping that is originally being used. This new whole genome sequencing detected that the first outbreak was falsely connected to a transmission chain. While using this new sequence, they found that TB evolved at a rate of 0.4 mutations per genome per year. They also have said that the whole genome sequencing can help trace future TB outbreaks. By reading this article, I think this ties in with what we learned in chapter five. We read about an organism’s genome and DNA and mRNA sequences. As I am not completely sure, but I think that when conducting the a better experiment to find a TB outbreak, the researchers had used this method. What I took from this article is that there are always ways to better something. Researchers and scientist are trying to find easier ways to pinpoint a problem or cure something. I believe this article was written for public viewing to inform people on this new
