Bullying.
Children suffer from a disease that progresses silently, called bullying. According to recent research indicates that, “nationwide, 20% of students in grades 9–12 experienced bullying” (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Bullying is one of the most popular aggressive behavior among school aged children, that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. This behavior can be repeated or has the potential to be repeated over time. It is know that someone bullies when they feel the need to dominate others, sometimes it can be an excessive impulsivity or problems managing anger, anxiety, jealousy and other negative emotions but it can also be cause when they have difficulty tolerating other children who are perceived as somehow “different”.
New research explains the reason why and also shows how bullying can be a need of feeling important in front of others, and show them that they may be in control. This researches also show that sometimes, “this can be attribute to the example that their parents or family members are giving to them”(Center for Disease Control and Prevention, par. 1). This means that they may be living in an environment full of stress, intolerance, and that they are being treated the same way that they treat their “victims”. Bullies are not always the aggressors but they can also be the victims, and in this cases is when they react to this by taking advantage of someone that they may think is weaker. Second reason is when sometimes this attitude can be an excessive impulsivity or problems managing anger, anxiety, jealousy and other negative emotions. In one study, it was shown that some children had a strong reaction of anger and anxiety when they were exposed to what the scientist believe it was the cause of their extreme behavior. Some of the reactions lead to one explanation, that “kids imitate what they see or hear especially between the ages of 6- 14” (The Development of Children, par. 1), that is when they are starting to discover who they are. Jealousy is another major cause for them to act aggressive. According to some other researches made to another group of children, it was prove that sometimes when “bullies” are not getting enough attention, they could react by doing risky things just to make people focus on them. Another cause for children to react this way is any other negative emotions. For example, “a child that is only being exposed to an environment in which its parents only project aggressive feelings to others, they can also reflect that by acting in the same way”. (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, par. 2) A third cause is when “bullies” have difficulty tolerating other children who are perceived as somehow “different”. This is proven to be one of the major reasons of why children are being bullied at schools. Some research suggesting that a significant portion of school children may not evaluate school-based violence as negatively or as being unacceptable as much as adults generally do, and may even
