The Zombie Apocalypse: Is it Possible? An onslaught of rotting, reanimated dead humans is not exactly likely in many peoples’ eyes, but it still might happen; maybe even to you. The thought of a zombie apocalypse actually occurring is ridiculous to most people but there are those out there who see it as a legitimate possibility and have started preparing for the return of the dead. Even though it is commonly taken as fiction, the zombie apocalypse may be possible because of things like nanobots and parasites. From The Walking Dead to World War Z to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the subject of the enigmatic reanimation of the dead has become more and more popular by the year. Large numbers of people have started dressing up as the living This is called Event Zero, the original event by which the zombie apocalypse is set off. Event Zero is usually written as the result of a bioweapon gone wrong or some other lab incident. Event Zero has also been written in some stories as what happens when Hell runs out of room for dead people, or even when a dead person has been cursed through the power of voodoo (TVTropes). Why has the zombie apocalypse become so popular lately? Stanford literary scholar Angela Becerra Vidergar says, “We use fictional narratives not only to emotionally cope with the possibility of impending doom, but even more importantly perhaps to work through the ethical and philosophical frameworks that were in many ways left shattered in the wake of WWII … we are left with this cultural fixation on fictionalizing our own death, very specifically, mass-destruction,” (SEE APPENDIX, FIG. 1) (Pappas). Television shows, movies, and books help people work through how they would act if they were placed in a survivalist situation, and how they would react to the ethical decisions that they would have to make under stress and how to deal with the consequences of those actions that they would never had to have made in their normal life. Tales of the zombie apocalypse may actually invoke feelings of hope in the midst of death and destruction as survivors battle to keep their lives They’ve even gone to the point of making an online comic and several lists of things to prepare in case a giant, moaning horde of cannibalistic undead – or anything else – decides to show up on someone’s doorstep. Of course, the CDC doesn’t really think the zombie apocalypse is a natural disaster looming on the horizon, but they find that using the zombie apocalypse is an effective platform to get people to prepare for other disasters, such as hurricanes, tornadoes, or floods. The topic of the zombie apocalypse is a hook to gain people’s interest, and then they are given information that would be handy in preparing for any disaster, even one that involves a lot of dead people
The exact time is uncertain, but its occurrence is inevitable. Many have begun preparing for the dawn of the dead, stocking up on valuable resources such as shelter, food and water, and weapons, all of which are key factors to surviving the zombie apocalypse. Initially, shelter must be established. A well concealed building, such as a prison, is an ideal shelter from zombies. It is large enough to accommodate a large body of survivors who are hopefully willing to join the fight against the army…
B.H Zombie Survival Guide Response When the undead army has risen and all shit hits the fan what should you do? Don’t fear Max Brooks is here. He lays out every detail you would need to know in order to survive one of the worst threats humanity could face. In the beginning of the book Brooks describes what zombie are. Though most book deals with zombies suffering from the Solanum instead of voodoo. The differences between the two of them are outstanding for example the voodoo zombie can recognize…
actually exist. The classic zombie we know is a Hollywood variation raised from the original Haitian Voodoo zombie. Haitian zombies come from the Voodoo, or Voodoun in Haitian Creole, religion. They are the walking dead created by “black magic” in which priest uses his other worldly powers to resurrect them. That is not the only way a zombie is created. A zombie is not necessarily dead. Generally, the modern idea that Hollywood has presented us with is that, a zombie has some infectious sickness…
think of when you hear the words undead or zombie? The words that used to come to mind are death, brains, hordes, walking dead, and flesh eaters to name a few. Now I must add politics into the mix when hearing the words undead and zombie. When adding politics into the world of the undead and zombies it prompts me to pose the question: Are zombies and the way they are portrayed inherently political? This leads to another more general question, Are all zombie movies political in nature? Do the movies…
Peterson, Ethan GEW Duran 2/8/15 Zombie Morals Fiction of zombies in today’s world depicts them as blood thirsty monsters that will stop at nothing but to eat surviving humans. As the characters in these zombie stories ruthlessly kill the zombies with no remorse and lots of gore, why is that? There are rarely any zombie movies or shows that display the characters with human qualities. These zombies were once humans though family, friends, and people before they turned, isn’t that supposed to…
people. In “The Child’s Need for Magic” by child psychologist, Bruno Bettelheim, the author argues that fairytales and magic are both needed for the healthy, psychological development of a child to transition into becoming a well-rounded adult. For example, He mentions "in late adolescence, years of belief in magic are called upon to compensate for the person’s having been deprived of it prematurely in childhood.” He explains that young people today seek escape in drugs and black magic because they…
lounging around, and not taking part in daily activities/functions but their bodies function normally. For example, they believe they are dead but they are obviously breathing because they spoke. Another common symptom is the use of the phrases; “Why I’m dead,” “Dead people don’t do (whatever it is you’ve asked of them)” and many more. There is a bright side to this diagnosis though! You are NOT a Zombie! Reminder: Cotard syndrome is a psychotic brain disorder not an infectious disease spread through a…
devouring people in sight. The movie consists of elements of mise-en-scene, which is the arrangements of everything that appears in the framing. “Mise-en-scene encompasses a variety of catagories related to the staging of action” (Belton 47). One example is acting, which brings the whole story come to life and makes the audience believe what is happening in the movie into something that could be real. With this successful film, their mise-en-scene covers a broad amount of their scenes with props…
called Khandas. Theravada also sets this notion of impermanence in place because once a buddhist reaches enlightenment they become a bodhisattva to help others reach enlightenment. The Four Noble Truths that all buddhist follow is also a perfect example describing the notion of impermanence, they are as followed; all life is marked by suffering, suffering is caused by desire,…
as much a part of land as any other object or thing People have an obligation to the land animals plants and lands the same way we have obligations to other people. The portrayal of Walking dead and the zombie apocalypse is an interesting parallelism to the course. It provides us with a modern day example, and allows us to understand the circumstances Native americans receive a lot of scrutiny, but I also think that is true with about every race…
