In the story everyday use there are two sisters that both want the quilts that there mother has kept for many years. In the story we learn that the oldest sister Dee is very fashionable. For example, when Dee steps out of the car she is described wearing a dress down to the ground. “There are yellows and oranges enough to throw back the light of the sun. Earrings gold to, and hanging down to her shoulders. Bracelets dangling and making noises when she moves her arm up to shake the folds of the dress out of her armpits.” This shows that Dee has better taste in style than her mom and sister do. Dee is also seen as being self-centered. For example when dee notices the bench that she is sitting on she says “I never knew how lovely these benches are. You can feel the rump prints.” This shows how carless she is about others feelings towards there furniture.
Maggie is the youngest she is seen to be very shy. For example when she see’s her sister pull up in front of their house she try’s to run away but her mother says, “come back here.” This shows that maggie is very close to her self than she is to others. Maggie is also very insecure about her appearance. For example when her mother talks about the fire that burned her, and her mother talks about the fire that burned her. “Have you ever seen a lame animal, perhaps a dog run over by some carless person rich enough to own a car, sidle up to someone who is ignorant to kind to him. That is the way my Maggie walks. She has been like this, chin on chest, eyes on ground, feet in a shuffle, ever since the fire that burned the other house to the ground.” This shows that maggie does not feel and look like her sister dee.
Now in the story we see that Maggie and Dee do not have any similarities except that they both want the quilts that their mother has. For example dee is better
