Is Euthanasia really hurting anyone? Euthanasia has more advantages than disadvantages. It is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma. It has been said that the act of euthanizing has given the family a more peaceful state of mind so that they know their loved one is not suffering anymore and is in a better place. Having that in mind I do believe in euthanasia for various reasons such as, stopping suffering, heartache and pain, it being a violation of human rights, and because of the cost of being on life support. We relieve pets of their suffering so why not people? It would be safe to say that most people think of their pet as a part of the family so why can’t the same type of kindness that we give them be given to humans? There are many diseases out in the world that can cause the patient to be in excruciating pain. For instance, blood cancer. This can cause bone fractures, repetition of infections, and persisting painful bruises. If the patient has tried every possible way to fight their disease but they have hit a dead end, would it not be more simple to meet death in a much more dignified manner than die in a hospital bed where you, your family and your friends do not recognize the person you have withered away to be? Life is said to be hard with any sort of terminal illness; in many of these cases would death not be the better answer? Not letting people practice Euthanasia would be a basic violation of human rights, the right to die, and would it not also go against the freedom that we are all promised in America? Every single person in this country has basic rights; the right to life, liberty and security as a person, as well as freedom of speech, to love and learn so they should also have the right to die as well. If a person is terminally ill and wants to avoid the excruciating pain and suffering that they have to go through each and every day and wants to end their life, pain and suffering in a dignified manner instead of going through it all for the chance of possibly being in worse pain who are we to take that away from them. The right to exercise euthanasia is something an individual should be able to choose for himself or herself. The courts should have as much of an input much like they do in other matters as such as marriage, family relationships, procreation, capital punishment and the refusal or termination of life-saving medical treatment. It is said that we live in a country that is free where we can make decisions for ourselves, but in actuality are we truly free if we cannot even make the simple choice to either live or not live our own lives. The cost of keeping someone on life support can be around eight thousand dollars a day. Life support also drains resources that could be used on other people that need it and have a higher chance of survival. Why would we waste resources on people that have about a five to six percent survival rate compared to a sixty to seventy percent survival rate where the resources have run out on them. Another problem with life support is that it masks the pain. Being on life support can give the appearance of a person being comfortable and in peace, while in actuality they are not. Giving off the appearance that people’s loved ones are not in pain could be a bad thing. Giving the impression that they are not in pain is giving the families false hope so life support thus causing continues massive debt and thus making it hard for them to pay their own bills at home. No need to mention the hospital bills that they have to cover besides the life support. Some counter arguments for Euthanasia or assisted suicide that have various flaws to them would be the Hippocratic Oath, which states the obligations and proper conduct of doctors, formerly taken by those beginning medical practice. Parts of the oath are still used in most medical schools, the Oath itself very clearly states, “I will
